Have you looked in the mirror today?
Of course you have. What kind of question is that? Everyone looks in the mirror every day, to make sure that they are clean.
But what about the mirror of God’s Word?
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” (James 1:22-25)
James equates looking into the mirror physically to reading God’s Word.
When we read the Word of God we are essentially looking into a mirror that will show us our sin and faults. We would be foolish to not look into it every day. Even more foolish would be to walk away and do nothing to improve our appearance.
The Bible reveals who we really are in light of who God really is.
So… have you looked in the mirror today?
