I was in the gym late one night when I remember looking up at one of the lights and noticing a bug continually zapping itself on the light, yet coming back for more.
I remember immediately blurting out, “You are an idiot.”
As soon as I made that remark, I thought to myself…
We so often do that as people.
We so often keep going back to the same dumb stuff that keeps “zapping” us… yet we for some reason keep coming back for more.
We take jealousy, pride, bitterness, gossip, lust, dishonesty for a spin, again and again.
But the only result is pain, strife, discipline, agony, guilt, and us banging our heads against the “light” (or better yet… darkness…) again and again… coming back for more every time.
Not only is the bug an idiot for continually going back to the pain without learning any better… but we are too for returning right back to our sins… while expecting a different result.
“Like a dog that returns to its vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.” – Proverbs 26:11 (NASB)
