So often I think we become fixated on the body of the car rather than the engine inside of it.
The only thing the outside of the car does is make it look nice. It makes a good appearance. The real power is in the engine.
Without a body the car can still run. Without the engine the car cannot.
This may be a stretch… but….
I think that is what we do with the church.
We get so fixated on the pastor, the band, the building (or lack thereof), the volunteers… that we forget what actually makes it all work… Jesus.
It’s not about the people. It’s not about the building. It’s not about the talent.
It’s about Jesus.
When we lose focus on who makes it all work in the first place we begin to become frustrated.
Why can’t my leader lead as well as another leader?
Why can’t my band play like this other band?
Why can’t my building be as cool as this other building?
Why can’t my volunteers be as dedicated as these other volunteers?
Don’t lose sight of Jesus. He makes it work. Not leaders. Not bands. Not buildings. Not volunteers.
It’s Jesus. Always has been. Always will be.
